Cuisine: Philippine

Course: Dessert

Prep Time: 20-30 minutes

Cooking Time: 5 minutes (per batch)

Total Time: 25-35 minutes

Serving Size: 6-10 people

  • 1 12  ounce can of jackfruit
  • 1 package of lumpia wrapper
  • 24 bananas (burro or saba)
  • 1/2 cup or brown sugar
  • egg wash (2 egg whites & water)
  • vegetable  or olive oil

  • deep fryer
  • pastry brush
  • cutting board
  • large platter
  • dish cloth
  • tongs

  1. Peel and cut bananas (lengthways)
  2. Cut Jackfruit into 1/4″ strips
  3. Place wrapper with 1 of the 4 ends toward you on a cutting board or clean surface
  4. Place 1/2 a banana on wrapper just below the center of the wrapper (closest to you)
  5. Put a couple of strips (2-4 pieces) of Jackfruit on top of the banana
  6. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar
  7. Starting with the end nearest you, roll wrapper tightly around the banana (like a burrito) fold-in and press down side edges and continue rolling. Just prior to completing the roll, when you have a triangle left at the tip of wrapper (like an envelope), brush on some egg wash to help seal it and then finish rolling.
  8. Preheat deep fryer to 375 degrees
  9. Use tong to place springrolls into oil
  10. Cook until crispy and golden brown
  11. Place cooked Turrón on a cooling rack or paper towels to drain excess oil
  12. Let cool and enjoy!

Note: Always keep damp dish cloth over wrappers (prior to rolling them). This keeps them moist.
