Hanging With Rock Stars

According to the Free Dictionary a rock star is “a famous singer of rock music”. However, in recent years the term has adopted a new definition, it has come to mean “the best of the best”, someone who is profoundly knowledgeable, visible and talented in a particular profession. I had the pleasure of taking a Real Food Styling and Photography workshop yesterday with two of the food industry’s rock stars, Matt Armendariz and Adam Pearson.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, I don’t cook, I’ve never taken a photography class and I had just upgraded from a digital to a DSLR camera the day before so I was a little apprehensive. Of course, everyone else in the class had the fancy shmancy, professional SLR cameras. As we went around the table and everyone introduced and started to tell a little about themselves, I knew I was in trouble, there was a manager of a restaurant, a graphic designer and a professional photographer that even Matt was impressed with and then there was me, “Hi, I’m Traci and I can barely boil water”. But luckily everyone was nice and Matt and Adam showed everyone love.

I think that is the key to life because every time I referred back to those golden words, I was good to go. I was so proud of myself, my cheeseburger lay-out was hearty and rustic, my pasta was practically perfect and… OK my dollops left a lot to be desired, but hey, nobody’s perfect.

It was a great day. In less than 8 hours I learned how to style several dishes, photograph using natural light and was able to hang with true food aficionados. I not only learned from Matt and Adam, but from my fellow classmates as well. It was an exceptional lesson learned. If you ever have the opportunity to take a workshop from Matt and Adam, jump on it. This workshop sold out in 5 hours. Trust me, you will most definitely laugh while learning. It was a joy to hang around true rock stars.

It was wonderful meeting you, Traci, and I’m sure our paths will cross again one day. In the meantime, great shot of the pasta, and thanks for the France link on the email. Oh, that would be a dream, wouldnt it :)
